Central Georgia Cancer Coalition

CGCC is working with our partners on the following programs to help at-risk

populations participate in free screening programs.

Programs

Breast Cancer License Tag Grant Program

This program came to be in 2002, when the Georgia General Assembly

passed legislation to put the proceeds of a special breast cancer license plate into an indigent care fund. This money would then be used for prevention and early detection of breast cancer in Georgia. The Central Georgia Cancer Coalition wrote and received a grant in 2005 from the state to pay for breast care services for un- and underinsured women in Central Georgia. The program was up and running in April of 2006 and now covers 9 counties serving over 85 women.

The Susan G. Komen Grant Program

In 2003, The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation granted Heath Care Central Georgia d/b/a Community Health Works an award to pay for mammograms and breast health services for uninsured/underinsured women in a six county area (Bibb, Peach, Crawford, Twiggs, Monroe, and Jones). Covered services ranged from screening mammograms to follow up diagnostic services to excisions. The goals of this grant were and continue to be to aid in prevention and early detection of breast cancer, and ultimately increase life expectancy and improve quality of life. In 2007, the program is still going strong to accomplish its original goals and has since added Houston County to its area of coverage.
